Lottery 2.1 & detailed explanation

Due the feedback comments on the blog about the new version of the lottery running from this week...

What's new in version 2.1? 2nd and 3rd place winners! After reading the feedback i do believe that one person winning that huge jackpot is a bit too much. So as suggested I have added  2nd and 3rd place winners too. Here's how it breaks down:

1st place: 60% of jackpot

2nd place: 30% of jackpot
3rd place: 10% of jackpot.

There are some questions, so instead of posting a comments I'll just post this blog explaining it for everyone to read. (I will add this in the FAQs as soon as i do this).

Q: How does the lottery actually work now?
A:  Very good question! Every Saturday night the lottery is ran automatically. It then picks 3 random tickets that were bought and the owner of those tickets are put in 1st 2nd and 3rd place (in the order chosen). More tickets = higher chance of being picked. Each ticket costs $2,000. 1st place gets 60% of the jackpot, 2nd place gets 30% of the jackpot and 3rd place gets 10% of the jackpot.

Q: Could one person win 1st, 2nd and 3rd?
A: No, if someone is picked as the winner it is not possible for them to win 2nd or 3rd place as well. The same goes for whoever is 2nd place cannot be chosen as 3rd place either.

Q: Guess there won't be rollovers now?
A: Rollovers will still run as they did before.

Q: So if a rollover happens, does the entire lottery rollover?
A: The rollover system works as follows: When the lottery reset is run, there is a 1 in 4 chance of the jackpot being rolled over to the next week. (Why? Because the week after draw becomes even more exciting). If that happens there are NO winners at all and the entire jackpot is added to next weeks draw. If the 3 in 4 happens then a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will be chosen. There will never be just a 1st place winner or a 2nd place winner. Its either [it all gets rolled over] or [there are 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners that share the jackpot].

Q: Can you please bring back the old lottery?
A:

Q: The lottery isn't worth it now because i only get 60% of the jackpot if I win?
A: The overall winner gets less, yes. But now there are 3 winners. Which triples your chance of winning a prize. Seeing 1 person win $100+mil last week just shows that the whole jackpot for one person is a little extreme. So I decided to break it down to 1st 2nd and 3rd. (60/30/10). But look at it this way, having a higher chance of winning a prize will most probably get more people interested in buying tickets, which therefore increases the jackpot which would make up for the amount you would get with less people buying and one winner.

I hope that's answered most your questions. I look forward to this weeks draw.

I think it is great that we now get 3 winners instead of one, you are exactly right about the 100mil jackpot, that is an outrageous sum of money for that one person. I think it's better this way.

This should stop a lot of complaining, but there is always the odd someone who will want too but hopefully they won't. Good job :P

With the possibility of having more than one winner it actually makes me want to buy more tickets knowing there's two more chances I could win something. Good idea. Also like the fact that when there's one win you can't sweep the other two spots.
