If you have not seen the blog about the automated blood letter and news deletion, you should have a read over it.
Every month I spend a lot of time and money marketing and advertising RoB to get new players to join the game. That's the easy bit! The hard bit is getting new players into the game. People signup go ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh and leave because it's too much to comprehend, and I agree, it is. Is there a way to get around this?
Last year we were toying around with video introductions. Simple 1 minute videos that show different aspects of the game. People don't like to read through guides and introductions because it's boring, its not untrue. Having some visual introduction through a video I think will get people into it more.
I would like to have an introduction video for when you first login it shows you the very basics of the game. Then each key feature of the game (covens, gym,hunting etc) will have their own short video. I think it's much more fun watch a feature being played on a video and you getting into it yourself. The video will be linked to that page as well as a dedicated video page on the help part of the site.
The videos will be embedded with Youtube (which will help with advertising across Youtube too).
What do I want?
- 1 or 2 people to join the staff team to develop these videos.
- The videos must use any software that can capture screen movement, software that does this.
- Either text captions of what's going on or voice overs (not sure which would work best) If you use voice overs you'll have to speak clearly and not too fast.
A good way to start would to think to yourself "What could I have seen to get me into the game easier?" Video needs to be using the new in game layout, not RoB-Lite.
If you're interested in this then please let me know your interest by blood lettering me (ID 1) and then you'll be required to do a test video to test out your skillz.
There are plenty of free and paid software to do this, if you're already a video editor then this may be for you.

It allows you to record the screen in video and if you have a mic you can add audio commentary to your video.

Add some good animated features to game and ull see how peoples get join this game,how other famous games got fame cause of something good in it.
I think that'd be good. I mean, I never read the guides at the start. I never do but I like working this out as I go along anyway.
Still, videos are cool because they won't take up much time for the person watching them and, if it was a voice over, they could kinda be doing something else at the same time, if you get what I'm saying.
I use Hypercam2 but you have to register unless you get that horrible Unregistered Hypercam box at the top of the screen ;) Note: What Spot said :p

Ash I think that is a smart move and some people just have to give negative feedback no matter what is posted. I myself have played other games and yeah I do not happen to read the rules..lol...So it would help to have a utube like thing to show here is how it is done...ahaha
As even I must admit I found it slightly intimidating to play this game. Understanding to do combat is 123 but the Quest issue & Gym would have been helpful to know upfront. Had I known about the gym I may not have amped up in rank so swiftly...but then oh yeah Plasma does work as a great sub...lol
I did read the intro guide. As for this video thing, it is an idea (not a new one) but it could help. I just like to put it out though thjat some are just too lazy to go through guides or introductions. So if a person is lazy, no matter how beautiful the guides would look like, then they will not read it or pay attention to it. In all, good luck with this idea and I hope it works. Otherwise, just put graphics to help them through since you are going multimedia anyway.

i myself learn quicker by seeing and doing than reading so it makes a lot of sense. though, i think that seeing somebody 'do' in RoB may very... "brisk"
Be on the first login page as stated and it'll have its own video section in the help files.
I joined in the much simpler times of RoB, left for months and came back and went "Woah! Ash has been busy" T_T I had to read everything to understand again...A video woulda been nice >.> lol
I have had my husband working in the same idea for our coven members. A walk through guide that tells them where things are and how I would like them to train. It has been very helpful since I am not always able to help every member individually....I think it is a great idea.

I am studying Creative digital media which involves making movies and short ads and I have access to the latest cameras, green screens, audio recording and editing equipment. I would definitely be interested in this. (not sure if I post here or bl you Ash.

Way to go Ash! I think that videos are a great way to help ... despite what others may think. :p That being said, perhaps adding the fun and personal experience to the video might just add the last "oooommmph" necessary to "sell" someone on the game!
Someone could also do live conferences to demonstrate and have questions answered. We do this on my board. You could use podcasts as well the people listen to and go through the steps.
I do like the video idea though. It would be a hoot to watch anyone on RoB teaching the game. lmao. Would be easy to implement. Someone could live stream and easily edit of just post direct to Qik and You tube.

well.. i agree with Darkash... even if this is a text based game... people don't really like to read introductions... and there is where the video comes in hand... when people see the whole aspect of the game, the community and how social this game is, people will stay here and play the game...
I would like to have some animated pictures on top of every activity like for gym ,market place and other.And the video idea is better than nothing.
I really wish that I had all my materials. I could make an awesome movie, short, and simple. And All it'd be is me showing them how easy it really is to play the game. The hard part, is all the people you meet and talk to. XD
Though I don't think it would be a good idea to show quests on here... People might use it to cheat. Just a thought...
I don't mind doing it as I already tried once but I have an issue with adding text in the video. My problem is my accent though. Ash it's up to you man.
