As of right now there are over 3.5 million blood letters in the database & 7 million news items. That's quite a bit, not that it's a huge problem but as it grows even more those pages will start to load more slowly with people accessing it all the
time.
This is a 24 hour warning as to a new automated script being created to delete blood letters and news items every night.
News will be deleted after you've had it for 7 days, and blood letters will deleted after 4 weeks whether you've read it or not.
This will hopefully go into effect tomorrow night and I'll blog again letting you know exactly what will happen. Doing this will help keep the database clear and make the site run as fast as possible.
I suggest for the blood letters you want to keep, SAVE THEM NOW!
Let me know your feedback and thoughts of the time periods I've suggested.

I think the deletion for unread and read mails should be different like 4 weeks for read mails and 6-8 for unread
could we get to save more than 50 BL then .

This is a great idea Ash, I was trying to go open a blood letter and it was running slow, took me about 5 minutes to get there
its about time I was wondering what took so long to come up with this
24 Hours warning to sort out our BLs is kind of shortish ... give us a week or two maybe ? I mean, I've got 1500+ BLs to check, and also something akin to a real life, so 24 hours will make it just a mad scramble. :s

this is a good idea, but maybe for those that go inactive, or maybe for the Blood letters and news updates that is a month old, but it shouldnt delete new thats hasnt been read, unless it is a month old. anything thats a month old, should go, but not every 4 weeks, even if it's been read or not, specialy with the people that do Coven games, and needs the blood letters to be kept untill they have read then and put the vampires names and points up on the coven score board. and i mean, you can only save a limited amount cant you?
Increase the amount of BLs we can save before implementing the BL delete script. Also, tt is hard to go over 600 BLs and find the important ones.

I think the biggest problem with news is battle news, with the other news items being an insignificant amount... Why not make it so only battle news is deleted after a week? I know I sure don't want my news of so and so sent you 5mill to disappear after just a week.
My news is always deleted and my blood letters get deleted once a month anyhow. But this will work for those who don't do that. lol

Wouldn't it make more sense for the players to delete the sent ones themselves, save you all the trouble from doing all of this?
Anonymous (The one above me, unless someone else has posted before I had a chance to post this...), people have had the opportunity to delete their BLs themselves for years now... Has it been done? Well, there are 3.5million BLs saying no it hasn't been done.

Wonderful! Even though I just deleted all of my BL's yesterday. ^^ Good work Ash, hopefully things works out right.
Oh and I agree with you Spot, people SHOULD use their RoB names or something, it's really annoying seeing anonymous everywhere.

Hey Ash.. I'll be honest, I didn't read any of the other comments (too many to care), but I was wondering why it is you don't have an option to delete the sent BL's? This would free up some space I imagine as well. If not, then perhaps a change I would like to see done if possible in the near future. Thanks

Coven news is already automatically deleted after a certain amount of time or news items.
I still think this should only apply to battle news...
My Battle News has 1785 items.
My Latest News has 31 items.
If that is used as a standard, then that means only 1.7% of news items are latest news, with 98.3% being battle news. (if we ignore demeters because demeters is just pointless)
Taking into consideration I have over 10K BLs I would love to have some more time than 24 hours to clear up which ones I want to keep if possible But as an idea and in consideration to the game's maintainance, I think it's a good thing.
If you let it get to 10k you should have deleted the ones you don't want and be more orgasnised. You couldn't surely assume they'd never get deleted?

I kinda agree, I mean everytime I try 2 do something on here it's runnin' slow. But I think tht u shouldn't delete stuff tht the peeps haven't looked at yet. :P

Awesome idea to help speed up things, but at the same time... give us a bit more time? BLs are important.

I've seen this same thing done on the ninja. seems like thats the only way of not taking up too much space and make things run faster. Figured this would happen sooner or later. Good move.
Yay! Ash can just clear out my 8500 or so Blood Letters all at once. I don't care about the time before deletion. I save all important BLs immediately after reading them. Perhaps some people should do the same. Just a thought.
24 hours? Not really the best notification of time. Some people don't log in every day... they may miss this notice and lose their BL's? A lot of backlash.
