Changing the way sessions work
Over the past couple weeks you might have been unexpectedly logged out. I know it happened to me a couple times, that is because when you hit the load balancer you get put on one of the many RoB servers. Your session is linked from your browser to that server, if that server goes down, even for a second, you'd get logged out. When you reload the page to log back in you'll get transferred to a working server. That has been happening every now and then as one of the servers kept crashing and the people on that server were getting booted.
You can't stop servers from crashing, but what we've done in order to stop this is to store your session data somewhere else. So no matter what server you're on, you won't get booted if the server goes down, you're simply moved to another server without the session data going down with it. You won't even feel it.
If you have any more logging out problems from right now, let me know.
Did you know? $73,065,485 is the total amount to date that has been taken out of the game due to the 1% market fee.
Thanks,
Ash
EDIT: The downtime just now was moving access from command line to my more appealing user interface so I can clearly watch how its working. It should be okay now. Please don't report it or comment this blog with the issue.

Nice
Ah! It was a minor inconvenience that I'd noticed. I wonder if a similar feature can be added to prevent the bot use?
73 million? Compared to the ever-rising-20.9 billion in game it doesn't seem a lot. Though that 1% Does mean that 7.3 billion has been attempted to be traded through the market. :)
Since you ask, it just to me happened last hour. Several times before that.
Also, what's this "bot" thing?
It happened to me on THIS toh - 22mins ago. Fail much?
Good, good. Thanks a lot. I've been tired of typing my password every 15 minutes :p
By the way, I like the new Story Quest :)
73mil does seem like alot - But its pretty much a piece of straw in the haystack when you think of ALL the money that people are holding... Your 1% may sound great, but the people who are holding up to and over 50mil in money - They only have to use a couple of turns, to make a couple of kills and then they've already made back that 1% back on whatever they put on the market...May as well demolish the 1%, as its useless to the big guns.
In the overall picture $73mil is not a lot, but its better than $0. It still helps.
And the logout 22mins ago was us putting the new system in place.
This game is pretty damn reliable as far as I'm concerned, and any problems are sorted speedily and without hassle. Ash - Kudos. :)
I'm trying to log in but it keeps on saying after I press the 'please click here to continue or wait five seconds to continue into the game' thing it says that I've been idle too long. >.<
Duri Aspire-Blackwood (297247)
same problem as Duri, I can't log in.
Enia (370680)
Me too Duri. =(
Thank you Ash. It's all better now. :)
Happened again a little bit ago--was that you doing something again?
Nice Ash, good job. That was a little annoying, but I'm glad it was fixed :)
Thanks Ash, Being logged out way annoying!
You can stop servers from crashing but it's not worth it to put in that level of work for a non-financial institution or highly-secured database network.
Thank you Ash,,,
Hugs,,
Humm I don't feel the intrest in reading this because if I am not gonna be treated in here why should I give a shit?
Only $73,065,485 ? I'm surprised it's not more, even if the fee is only 1%
ASH: **In the overall picture $73mil is not a lot, but its better than $0. It still helps.**
Yet, how many VIP players have enough moola to get the extra 60k a day? And the VIP+ get 65k a day? - Hell, non-VIP even get 50k a day - All up, however many RoB members that have over 6mil and get the full advantage of that interest in the bank - Is probably just making that $73mil back DAILY. = Fail.
I say I didn't know
I didn't know. Thank you for info.
Fortunately, I have not experienced the log out *knock on wood*, however, I can consider this should it happen in the future. The update is appreciated.
